Downtown Joliet Post Office Location to Remain Open

Mayor Tom Giarrante received notice today from the U.S. Postal Service that Downtown Joliet Post Office will remain open to serve the needs of Joliet residents and businesses.  The survey conducted by the U.S. Postal Service showed that the demand for postal service in Downtown Joliet remains strong, and with the pending projects for the expansion of the Joliet Junior College Downtown Campus expansion and the construction of the multimodal transportation center, that demand will grow in the near future.

On behalf of the members of the Joliet City Council, Mayor Giarrante would like to thank the U.S. Postal Service for responding so quickly to the community and reaching the conclusion that the Downtown Post Office is a key institution in Joliet .  Mayor Giarrante and the City Council would also like to than Senator Dick Durbin for his assistance in reviewing the demand for postal service and assisting the City in making its case.  The Mayor and City Council would also like to thank Congressman Adam Kinzinger, Senator A.J. Wilhelmi, Will County Executive Larry Walsh, Will County Clerk Nancy Schultz Voots, as well as the City Center Partnership and the Joliet Region Chamber of Commerce for their assistance in helping keep the Downtown Post Office open.  Most of all, the Mayor and City Council would like to thank Joliet residents and businesses that responded to the survey to help establish the need for maintaining the presence of the Post Office in Downtown Joliet.
